I Don't Hate It | Sail Away
Hey there. How much did you love Wendi Aarons's guest post? So much. One of the many things I love about Wendi is that she is well read—she manages to keep up with new releases and back-fills any gaps she sees—while also writing some of the funniest shit on the internet.
1. Friday night I attended a book launch for one of my dearest friends, Siva Vaidhyanathan. His newest book is Antisocial Media: How Facebook Disconnects Us and Undermines Democracy. If you wonder how Trump won without spending much, if any, money on TV ads or traditional campaigning, you should read this book. If you have any qualms about privacy and data, you should read this book. If you're online in any capacity, you should read this book.
2. I have probably mentioned Rachel Kushner before. The Flamethrowers is one of my favorite novels. Kushner's new novel is The Mars Room. I blew right through it. I can't recommend it highly enough.
3. Do you watch Marcella? I've just finished season 2 on Netflix. I don't want to give anything away, but whoa.
I'm going on vacation and I'm overpacking in every way. Here is a noninclusive list of the reading material I'm taking with me: Less by Andrew Sean Greer; Call Me By Your Name by André Aciman (which my friend Elisabeth told me is better than the film, and which I started reading months ago, so I refuse to watch the movie until I finish the book); too many People magazines; even more New Yorkers; Pachinko by Min Lee; Tommy Orange's There There; The Fighter by Michael F. Smith; and The Lonely Hearts Hotel by Heather O'Neill. Wish me luck.
